Why choose a FloorBed?

Approximately one in four adults ages 65 and older, report falling each year, with 37% requiring medical treatment (CDC). With the right interventions, falls and fall-related injuries can be prevented.

Standard

The impact when hitting the ground from this height can lead to severe injuries like fractures, head injuries and bruises.

Low

The impact from falling off a low bed is typically less severe but can still result in minor injuries like bruises or sprains.

Floor level

Transforms a bed fall into a roll, reducing the impact and therefore risk of injury. Falls from this height often result in no harm.

Accora FloorBed® technology proven to help prevent falls
During the evaluation period at Lutheran Home, a non-profit Senior Living Community in Illinois, FloorBed technology was associated with a 100% reduction in the number of falls from the bed, compared to the standard bed.

"The most important thing is that the Accora bed goes all the way to the floor. Products we’ve been using before, they don't quite go all the way to the floor, they go four to six inches and there's still an impact."

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the FloorBed® 1 and Empresa® function like a full electric bed?
Yes, they have the same functions as a full-electric bed and beyond. Trendelenburg, Anti-Trendelenburg and the safety stop.
Are there any entrapment zones on the FloorBed 1 and Empresa?
No, The FloorBed 1 and Empresa are certified to be compliant with the International Anti-Entrapment Code 60601-2-52.
Where are the side rails?
There are none. We are becoming a “siderail free nation”. However, an optional assist bar, or even two, can be attached to aid positioning and mattress guides prevent the mattress from shifting position.
Where can I place the assist bar?
Anywhere, as it will fit properly on either side of the bed. There are safety zones, located on each corner of the frame, which prevents the placement of the assist bar where it might become an entrapment zone.
Can I add a frame mounted trapeze bar to the FloorBed 1?
Yes, you can add a frame mounted trapeze bar to both the FloorBed 1 and Empresa.
Isn’t it still considered a fall when the resident rolls off the floor bed onto the floor?
When a floor bed is under four inches, as the Accora beds are, it enables residents to have a roll rather than a fall which decreases the percentage of injury significantly. Evidence suggests a floor-level bed of less than four inches from the floor is optimum in reducing the risk of injury as it decreases velocity, so a roll is not categorized the same as a fall for that reason.

(Source: Lowest Heights of Floor Level Beds: Fall Velocity and Impact Force Analysis and Resulting Injuries, Dr. George Zaphir).
Can I use a safety mat on each side of the bed?
Absolutely.
Can I use my current mattress with the FloorBed 1 and Empresa?
Yes, you can use your current mattress or air mattress with the FloorBed 1 and Empresa. For air mattresses, you will need our air pump holder and you can thread the air mattress tubing through our mattress guide at the foot of the bed to eliminate a potential trip hazard.
Do you offer a bariatric option?
We offer the FloorBed 1 Plus which is 42" wide and can extend to 84" length. For the Empresa we offer an extension kit that can convert the bed to 42”.
Can I extend the bed to 84”?
Yes, you can. On FloorBed 1 you can extend out the footboard 4” with our platform extension. On the Empresa you simply pull the footboard out 4” and re-screw it in place without any apparatus needed.
Do the beds require routine service or maintenance?
No, Accora does not require routine preventive maintenance for these products.
Are the beds covered under Medicare or Medicaid?
No, our beds are not covered or reimbursed under Medicare or Medicaid.
How do the Accora FloorBeds compare to a Joerns or Med-Mizer bed?
We use true FloorBed® technology meaning our beds really do go to floor level at under 4”. In fact, FloorBed 1 is currently the lowest bed on the market.
Isn't there a risk of injury to the caregiver when lowering the floor bed to the floor?
There is a safety stop built into both the FloorBed 1 and Empresa, stopping at a height of 7” and 8” respectively which prevents accidental injury. The caregiver must make a conscious, clinical decision to lower the bed to floor level for that resident.
What is the duration of the warranty?
For the Floorbed 1, the frame has a warranty of 10 years, the electrics and parts are 2 years. For the Empresa, the frame has a warranty of 12 years, the electrics and parts are 4 years.
