The role of nutrition & hydration in fall prevention

Fall risks can be greatly reduced by a strong nutrition and hydration program. Unfortunately, poor intakes of food and fluids can lead to reduced rehabilitation results, such as compromised muscle recovery and weakness, which increases fall risks. Weight loss in the elderly is a precursor of falls and many other negative outcomes, such as infection and skin breakdown. Learn how quality food and a strong dining and hydration program can reduce fall risks and improve quality of life for our residents, while reducing survey risks and avoidable weight loss.
The participant will be able to identify malnutrition and dehydration as significant fall risk factors
The participant will be able to identify techniques to identify signs and symptoms of malnutrition and dehydration during the admission and residency using validated tools and screens
